// Our Story

Legal work that fits
how startups operate.

Sarong Partners was built around a simple observation: most legal practices aren't designed for early-stage companies. We set out to change that for Singapore founders.

// Who We Are

A practice built at the intersection of law and startup culture

Sarong Partners was founded in 2018 by a team of lawyers who had spent years working with regional tech companies and noticed a gap. Founders were either underserved by generalist practices that didn't understand startup mechanics, or overcharged by large firms whose fee structures made no sense for a pre-revenue company.

The practice was set up at Block 71 — Singapore's most concentrated startup community — intentionally. Being embedded in that environment means the team stays current with how deals are actually structured and what investors are currently asking for.

Today, Sarong Partners works with founders across sectors including SaaS, fintech, consumer, and deep tech. The client base spans first-time founders incorporating their first company through to teams preparing for institutional Series A rounds.

The name is a nod to the street where the practice first operated — and a reminder that the best legal work, like the best textiles, is both sturdy and adaptable.

Our Mission

To give Singapore startups access to legal support that is properly scoped, clearly priced, and explained in plain terms — so founders can make confident decisions at every stage of company-building.

// How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Law Society of Singapore

All practising lawyers are members in good standing and bound by the Professional Conduct Rules governing Singapore legal practice.

Client confidentiality

All client information is protected under legal professional privilege. Engagement documentation and cap table data are handled with strict access controls.

Defined scope per engagement

Every engagement starts with a written scope and a fixed price. Clients know what they're getting and what it costs before the work begins.

Document review cycles

All client documents go through an internal review process before delivery. Substantive changes to the law and market practice are tracked and incorporated as standard.

PDPA compliance

Data handling within the practice complies with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act. Client data is not shared with third parties without consent.

Plain-language delivery

Documents come with explanatory summaries so clients understand what they've signed and why each provision matters.

Startup legal counsel in Singapore

Singapore's position as a hub for regional startups means that company law, shareholder structures, and investor documentation all carry particular significance here. The country's legal framework offers significant advantages for startups — a well-established Companies Act, strong intellectual property protections, and institutional investor familiarity with Singapore-incorporated structures — but those advantages only materialise if the foundational documents are set up properly.

Sarong Partners focuses exclusively on legal matters that arise in the startup lifecycle: company formation, equity arrangements between founders, capital-raising transactions, and the design of equity incentive plans for teams. This concentrated focus means the team has seen most of the patterns that arise at each stage and can navigate them efficiently.

The practice is located at Block 71, Ayer Rajah Crescent — a campus that houses hundreds of startups, accelerators, incubators, and venture investors. That proximity keeps the team close to the questions founders are actually asking and the terms investors are actually proposing.

Clients range from two-person founding teams at the incorporation stage through to growth-stage companies preparing for Series A and B rounds. Across all stages, the approach is the same: understand what the client is trying to build, provide clear guidance on the legal options, and produce documentation that is both legally sound and practically useful.
